Directions for Applying Printed Stickers and Labels
CLEAN SURFACE:
The
surface should be clean of dust, grit or oils. Alcohol or a
solvent
cleaner may be used on non-painted surfaces, but should be tested in an
out of sight area first. Oils from your hands can contaminate the
surface and adhesive.
FIRM PRESSURE:
The
adhesive is activated with pressure. Applying the label from one side
to the other will help prevent air from being trapped under it.
WARM
TEMPERATURES:
Adhesive sticks better and cures better in warm temperatures. It will
also stick better if the surface is textured. Cold temperatures
will
cause the adhesive to have less tack and it will tale longer to cure.
It is recommended that the label and surface temperature be between
70-90°F before applying. When storing labels, keeping them
between
60-90°F is recommended.
GIVE THEM TIME:
The pressure of applying a label begins the curing process. The
adhesive will become stronger over time and will fully cure in about
1-2 weeks.

When I first designed the Volvo Prancing Moose in 2005, it was
intended to be a parody of the
Ferrari horse emblem shown on the right. It
was a tongue 'n' cheek way of having some fun with a Volvo... at
Ferrari's expense of course. The sticker became popular and the
selection has now grown to more than 70 different designs with several
variations of each design. It's out of control!

Understanding
how this whole moose thing evolved.
Moose
History 101: When the
XC90 debuted in 2002, Volvo
organized several test drive events, where quite a few Volvo fans came
out to see and drive the new SUVs on fast cone slalom courses.
Volvo
was showing off their new and advanced Dynamic Stability Traction
Control (DSTC), a first of its kind for an SUV. One of
the courses was a special slalom, where a professional driver would
take a carload of folks, accelerate to a high speed (60 mph if I recall
correctly), keep his foot firmly planted on the gas... to the floor,
and
then crank the wheel as fast as he could one direction, then the
other. This dangerous maneuver simulated the avoidance of an
obstacle in the road, such as a
moose (even though it was really just some cones). The DSTC was
truly an amazing
feature. Many other tall
vehicles would have certainly become
very unstable and possibly lost control, spun out or even rolled over
during such
an
extreme maneuver, but the Volvo's
DSTC
took over and kept the SUV in perfect form without a hint of
trouble. Volvo was calling this course the "Moose
Avoidance Test," which
seems to be a fairly
common and useful test in places that might
actually have mooses running out in front of cars.
Later,
when Volvo began showing their new SUV at various places,
such as car expos, one of them was sporting a pair of moose stickers on
its
fenders, although it was a cartoon-like standing
moose profile (see photo), not a prancing moose. This
concept inspired
me to design the
Volvo Prancing Moose. So if you own a Volvo and have
a sense of humor, these stickers are a must for your car. And as
you can see,
they are also available for our SAAB cousins and many other worthy
makes of cars. Moose
stickers are turning up on many cars and trucks. Maybe the moose
will insire world peace one day.

Magnetic Backing WARNING:
A few customers have complained that the magnetic backed stickers began
to glue themselves to their paint after a long time on the car, leaving
a residue on the paint that was hard to remove. When I asked how
long the magnet had been on the car and if they ever removed it when
washing the car, they said they never removed it for a year or
longer. THIS IS NOT A GOOD
IDEA! Moisture, dirt and grime can get behind the magnet and
damage your paint. I STRONGLY ADVISE you to remove them
occasionally when cleaning the car.

INSTRUCTIONS
FOR DIE-CUT VINYL DECAL APPLICATION
Store in a cool,
dry place, out of direct sunlight until ready to apply.
Application is best when temperature is between 50 and 80 degrees
Fahrenheit.
If applied on glass, clean surface thoroughly. If applied on a
painted surface, keep in mind the adhesive is pretty strong and may
need some
heat (such as a hair dryer) to remove later.
This
decal consists of 3 layers:
1. The
clear bottom liner (bottom layer)
2. The
vinyl decal (middle layer)
3. The
clear top mask (top layer)
Preparing
for Application:
Place decal face-up on hard, flat surface. Pressing firmly, rub
the top mask back and forth over the vinyl decal. This is to make
sure the decal sticks to the top mask when the bottom liner is removed.
Lifting the Decal
from the
Bottom Liner:
Starting at one corner, slowly peel the top mask from the bottom
liner. The decal should lift from the bottom liner as you go and
remain attached to the top mask. The sticky side of the vinyl
will be exposed, so do not touch it. If any part of the decal is
stubborn and not lifting off the bottom liner, then lay the top mask
back down, firmly rub the area, and try again.
Applying
the Decal to Surface:
Holding the sides of the top mask, lay the image down onto the surface
in the desired position. Take your time in positioning, because
once it sticks,
it stays!
Using your fingers or a credit card, rub the top mask a number of
times. Then, starting at one corner, slowly peel the top mask
off, leaving only the decal. As you peel the mask off, if any
part of the decal begins to lift, push the mask back down and rub
some more.
